Autonomy on the airport apron
Decarbonisation represents a huge challenge for civil aviation. A key lever for optimising the overall system is the use of alternative forms of propulsion in secondary activities, such as electric taxiing on the airfield. The aim of the “FastGate” project is to radically reduce downtime, operating costs, and carbon and noise emissions by automating processes on the airport apron. The automation of passenger boarding bridges and the use of green propulsion systems on the landing gear of commercial aircraft enable the development of novel processes and operations at commercial airports. The project maps the entire value chain from development to validation.
